My Award Nominations

posted in: 2019 Reviews, Pondering | 2

Award season is coming to a close and who would I be if I didn’t throw my opinion in the ring like some entitled jackass! With this post, I’m just going to inform you who I think deserves to be recognised for giving the best performances in the acting categories for 2019.

I saw a lot of movies in 2019, but I didn’t see them all, so before getting into the nominations, I’ve jotted down “My Notable Exceptions”, which includes movies I haven’t seen but garnered nominations from the Academy; special mention to the movie Richard Jewell which I had no way of seeing since it isn’t released in Australia until mid-February – Kathy Bates is up for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Richard Jewell; is she any good? I couldn’t tell you! Another special mention to Awkwafina for The Farewell, which I didn’t see and didn’t get nominated by the Academy, but from all reports, and her Golden Globe win, she also deserves to be in the conversation.

I go six nominations, where the Academy only gives out five – talk about extra bang for your buck! I don’t think my nominations are going to be too controversial; I think the Academy is pretty much on the money with the actors and actresses they acknowledged this year and my nominations only differ in a few places, so here goes…

Things you realise when making lists of nominations:

1. You can’t include everyone.

2. And on the flip side of the same coin, sometimes some nominations don’t deserve to be recognised on the same level as other nominations but hey, you’ve got to fill those slots.

3. It must be an honour to get nominated.

Nice list, of the movies in your list I have seen I can’t disagree with any of them. Will you do a worst list like The Razzies, or do you not want to single out bad actors/actresses

    • Today Junior!

      Hey mate,
nah, no Razzies. Like you say, don’t want to highlight the crap.

Sorry I couldn’t fit in John Lithgow for you 🙂
